Today, Activision announced plans for the new Call of Duty World League that we have been working with them on for some time now. It’s a new global eSports league that will triple its prize pool to a cool $3 million, expanding to pro and amateur divisions. Additionally, the Call of Duty Championship will move to the Fall and support an all-new season structure. For us, these are all great things that truly move the ball forward for the competitive community. Click here to learn more about it. As you know, Treyarch has been passionately committed to an eSports agenda well before Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 first appeared at the first Call of Duty Championship. From introducing features like CODcaster mode to the new Arena mode in Black Ops 3, we’ve been driven by the idea that Call of Duty is a competitive game. Whether you’re playing from your couch and connecting with your friends for a casual game of multiplayer, or in the final round of a tournament competing for big money, it’s all about the thrill of competition and the bragging rights that come with victory. When Black Ops 3 arrives on November 6, it won’t be an exception. Treyarch is proud to be delivering the next level of eSports features, creating the most competitive Call of Duty to date. We can’t wait to see what you do with it. View the full article

We are super excited to put the Black Ops 3 PC Beta in your hands more than 2 months before the game launches on November 6. It’s been said before over the last week, but it bears repeating: the Beta represents a mere fraction of what you can expect on November 6 when the full game launches. A Beta affords us the opportunity to test hardware compatibility, networking, default settings, and other systems – while at the same time, allowing you to get your hands on the game and provide the kind of feedback that can make for the best Day One possible. How can you contribute? Well, there are a few ways: Twitter: We’ll have our ear to the @Treyarch Twitter machine and we’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on everything from gameplay to bugs.Twitter: For technical issues, feel free to Tweet at @ATVIAssistForums: Check for the Black Ops III Beta section here.Because you’re a PC player, you know that this is a different animal from console development. So, there are a few things you should know about the Black Ops 3 PC Beta… Final optimizations and final Advanced Graphics features are not included in the PC Beta; however, you can expect that these will be in the final game. We typically spend the last couple of months before launch finalizing graphics features and optimizations on PC. Also, the final optimized drivers from our hardware partners will also come later. (Because this isn’t your first rodeo, you know that this is normal.) Also, Paintshop is not included in the PC Beta, but it will definitely be in the final game in November. The PC team works on a separate schedule from the console crew with its own distinct development schedule. While it’s not in the Beta, you can plan for the full version to be in the final game. Over the next few days, we hope that you enjoy playing the Black Ops 3 PC Beta as much as we’ve enjoyed making it. Good morning! Late last evening, the PS4 Beta came to a close and WOW did players turn out! Thank you to everyone that joined the fun, provided feedback and helped to improve the Day 1 experience for all! There were a few bumps along the way – which are the sort of kinks that Betas are intended to help iron out – and we appreciate your patience. With the end of the PS4 Beta, comes the promise of the start of the Beta for Xbox One and PC fans. Things will kick off later today for Xbox One/PC and we look forward to yet one more awesome week of gameplay. While the jig is up and you know what is coming by virtue of the PS4 Beta, rest assured that we’ll be in touch throughout your Beta period and making sure that you’re having the best experience possible. To the PlayStation Nation, thank you! For everyone preparing to jump on this week, let’s do this! We look forward to seeing you online. Good morning! By now, you’ve probably caught on that our Periscope broadcasts will give you a jump on the action. Well, today is no exception… Today, we’re increasing the level cap to Colonel (Level 40) – now, it’s time to see what you've got, so bring it! But why stop with just a level cap? How about a new Specialist too? Today, you’ll have the opportunity to play as Spectre – here’s what you need to know: Next to nothing is known about the presumed wet-works Specialist, Spectre. The designation itself is a codename agreed upon by the various agencies that have pooled their intelligence on unsolved assassinations, inferring his or her existence based on either evidence found at the scene or from fragmentary reports given by shaken bystanders. Despite heavy redaction, all accounts suggest an individual capable of extraordinary stealth, able to evade or neutralize the most sophisticated of manned or automated security set-ups. In every case, Spectre’s victims have been ‘handled’ with surgically precise mid-line wounds with rarely any signs of struggle. Last but not least, you’ll have a chance to play a brand new mode that we’re calling Safeguard. This is an “attack and defend” mode that will test a team’s ability to coordinate their action. The attacking team must escort a robot drone into the enemy team’s base, but it only moves when a player is standing next to it. The defending team can disable the robot by inflicting enough damage, causing it to shut down and reboot before it can be moved again. Teams will alternate between attack and defense roles, each getting one turn in each role . If one team wins both rounds, they win the match. If both teams win a round, it goes into overtime, which follows a similar format to Capture the Flag overtime – if the attacking team escorts the robot into the enemy base in the first round, the opposing team has to beat their time to get the robot into the enemy base. It’s pure, delicious chaos! Organized teamwork is the name of the game here, folks. We hope that you enjoy Spectre, as well as Safeguard and we can’t wait to see you online! Good morning! If you tuned into last night’s Periscope broadcast, you’ll know that we’ve got a few surprises in store for you today. For starters, we’re upping the level cap to Major (Level 34). Gating progression like this has helped glean invaluable information about how people progress through the game and how we should fine-tune our balancing, so thank you! Also, while we see that you’ve been having a good time with Combine, Hunted and Evac, we feel that it’s time to add something new to the mix. That’s why we’re introducing a new map into the rotation: Stronghold. Welcome to your very own high-tech Swiss chateau in the frozen, mountainous Alps. It features an asymmetrical design with a mix of exposed sightlines and tight, close quarters. What goes great with your own Swiss chateau? Why a robot whose arm can transform into a mini-gun, of course! Today, we’ll introduce you to Reaper – here’s what you need to know: Real Name: Experimental War Robot (EWR)Bio: Started as an expensive military R&D project to supplement Special Operations soldiers in the field, the EWR was a cutting-edge prototype combat robot, the most advanced in the world at the time. Budget overruns and embarrassing political incidents left the project all but a resource for scrap metal, except for the one prototype that remained.Weapon: Scythe – Robotic arm that transforms into a high power Mini-Gun.Ability: Psychosis – Infiltrate enemy DNI systems to simulate three decoy clones. One final addition today – and one that we know that many of you will appreciate – is the introduction of the game mode, Uplink. This is where players face off in an effort to send a satellite careening into an enemy’s goal. We hope that you enjoy our take on this fan favorite. We’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: this Beta is a work-in-progress and a development tool that will ultimately help us fashion a better Day One experience. Keep your feedback coming and of course, enjoy yourself along the way! Treyarch View the full article

We can’t believe that it’s actually here – today marks the first full day of the PlayStation 4 Beta and we hope that you’re getting online and having a good time. Bringing the game to E3 and Gamescom was a lot of fun, but this Beta takes the cake. This is the first Beta that the franchise has done since we did it last with World at War, so naturally we’re excited to finally start putting the game in peoples’ hands. Over the last few years, we’ve designed a new movement system, built environments from the ground up specifically for that system, implemented Specialists, taken customization to a new level with the Weapon Paintshop and more. The Beta represents a mere fraction of what you can expect on November 6 when the full game launches. It is a snapshot of Black Ops III multiplayer in active development with the hard-working team at Treyarch, and we’re excited to invite you – our most devoted fans – into the process of polishing and refining the gameplay experience to make a better game on Day 1 for everyone. A Beta is only as powerful as your feedback. What are the best ways to provide feedback? There are a few ways: Twitter (Treyarch): We’ll have our ear to the @Treyarch Twitter machine and we’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on everything from gameplay to bugs. (Yes, bugs…they can happen at this stage, which is why we’re all playing. We want to get them ironed out for a smooth launch.)Twitter (Customer Support): For technical issues, feel free to Tweet at @ATVI_AssistForums: Check for the Black Ops III Beta section HERE.Console Platform: If a technical issue occurs, you may be prompted with the opportunity to “report a problem”. Given the choice, please do so – it will help us track down the source of the issue.Survey: Or, you could just visit us here and provide your feedback directly by clicking HERE.Stay tuned to the studio’s social channels along the way – we’ll do everything we can to ensure that you have a great time during your Beta experience. If you’d like a quick refresher about what’s in store for you during the Beta, feel free to refer to our last blog HERE. For now, we hope that you have as much fun playing Black Ops 3 as we’re having making it! Hello! We hope that you’re getting pumped for the Beta, because we certainly are – we can’t wait to jump online with you and start playing some Black Ops 3. While the Beta represents a fraction of what will be available in the final game, your feedback will help fine-tune the game and make for a better, smoother Day 1 for everyone, so thank you! No doubt, you just caught the trailer for the Beta. If you didn’t, you can catch it here. In it, you probably saw a few things that you haven’t seen before. We figured that now would be a good time to start sharing exactly what’s in store next week (Aug. 19) for PS4 owners that pre-ordered the game (as well as what Xbox One and PC fans can expect on August 26 when the Beta goes live for them). Let’s get to it… Multiplayer Maps When PS4 players jump into the Beta, they’ll have access to three maps, each one having been built from the ground-up specifically for our new momentum-based chained-movement system. Hunted: This big game hunting lodge is situated beneath a waterfall in the lush mountains of Ethiopia, where rugged terrain opens up to long sightlines and a stealthy underwater pathway.Combine: Set in the remote Egyptian Sahara, this vertical farming and sustainability research facility plays fast and frenetic with tight interiors, an open middle and a dangerous flank path.Evac: An abandoned emergency evacuation zone atop an overgrown rooftop in the middle of Singapore’s flooded quarantine zone.Game Modes Prepare to do battle! On the 19th, expect to find a range of fan favorites: Team DeathmatchDominationDemolitionKill ConfirmedHardpointCapture the FlagSearch & DestroySpecialists: As you know, Specialists bring their own look, personality, voice and battle-hardened weapons and abilities to the fight. They can be ranked-up, delivering yet another layer to our progression system. Next week, PlayStation 4 players will start getting to know the default Specialists: Callsign: Ruin Real Name: Donnie WalshBio: Raised in a military family in a tough neighborhood, he is fearless and headstrong, an infantry soldier through and through. He uses his unique abilities to rush into battle and surprise the enemy with sheer force.Weapon: Gravity Spikes – Creates a devastating area of effect shockwave in the surrounding area.Ability: Overdrive – Initiates a burst of speed that accelerates all movement for a short period of time.Callsign: Outrider Real Name: Alessandra CastilloBio: Developed keen observation skills growing up in the streets of the Favela, traversing the rooftops to watch the action of the city below, and this earned her a place in the ranks of the Brazilian Special Forces. She outsmarts enemies by finding them before they have a chance to know what hit them.Weapon: Sparrow – Compound bow w/explosive bolts and variable range.Ability: Vision Pulse – Pulses the surrounding area to reveal the location of all enemies within range.Callsign: Prophet Real Name: David WilkesBio: Wilkes got his first set of cybernetic augmentations while serving in the British Engineering Corps. Five years and many upgrades later, he is the embodiment of the cutting edge of human weaponry on the battlefield, using his superior technology to disrupt opponents’ tactics before moving in for the kill.Weapon: Tempest – Charge-shot weapon that fires an arc of electricity, shocking targets and chaining to all nearby enemies.Ability: Glitch – Flash back to a previous position with this system mod that hacks the battlefield simulation grid.Callsign: Battery Real Name: Erin BakerBio: The only daughter and youngest child of five siblings, Erin Baker always had to fight to get her way. Following in a family tradition of over 100 years of military service, and watching her brothers enter the US Army one-by-one, she finally graduated high school and enrolled herself. Driven to excel by her ongoing rivalry with her brothers, she volunteered for Airborne School, before crushing the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program. Heavily armored, she fearlessly operates ahead of the front lines, nimbly traversing urban environments, as she destroys HVTs with salvoes of advanced high-explosive munitions.Weapon: War Machine – Grenade launcher that fires bouncing grenades which detonate after a short time or by hitting an enemy directly.Ability: Kinetic Armor – Reactive armor that deflects enemy bullets away from the body. Still vulnerable to headshots and non-bullet damage while active.Rank up to levels 22 and 28 and you can also wreak havoc with: Callsign: Seraph Real Name: Zhen ZhenBio: Militant enforcer of the 54I crime syndicate’s rule of law. She is known for her focused and unflinching combat discipline, striking fear within the ranks of the cartel.Weapon: Annihilator – Massive high-caliber revolver that fires devastating rounds with increased bullet penetration.Ability: Combat Focus – Triggers a bonus multiplier to score earned towards Scorestreaks for a period of time.Callsign: Nomad Real Name: Tavo RojasBio: Last surviving member of an elite Rapid Deployment Force unit specialized in Jungle Warfare, Rojas has gone off-grid using his survivalist training to stay alive. At home in the wild, he uses his skills to turn the environment against his foes.Weapon: H.I.V.E. – Deploys pod traps which release a deadly swarm of nano drones when triggered.Ability: Rejack – Recover from near death by injecting a nanoparticle serum into the bloodstream. We don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves, but… After the first few days of progression, we’ll also make a few additional Specialists available. As you rank up and progress during the week, you’ll also gain access to: Callsign: Reaper Real Name: Experimental War Robot (EWR)Bio: Started as an expensive military R&D project to supplement Special Operations soldiers in the field, the EWR was a cutting-edge prototype combat robot, the most advanced in the world at the time. Budget overruns and embarrassing political incidents left the project all but a resource for scrap metal, except for the one prototype that remained.Weapon: Scythe – Robotic arm that transforms into a high power Mini-Gun.Ability: Psychosis – Infiltrate enemy DNI systems to simulate three decoy clones.Callsign: Spectre Real Name: CLASSIFIEDBio: Next to nothing is known about the presumed wet-works Specialist, Spectre. In every case, Spectre’s victims have been ‘handled’ with surgically precise mid-line wounds with rarely any signs of struggle.Weapon: Ripper – Spectre deploys mono-edged twin blades before gracefully dissecting victims with lethal, surgical precision.Ability: Active Camo: Advanced meta-materials rapidly change their properties, guiding photons over their surfaces instead of reflecting them, rendering Spectre temporarily invisible.Weapon Paintshop The new Weapon Paintshop feature goes beyond the Emblem Editor and lets players create custom graphics that are displayed on the sides of their guns. With up to 64 layers applied to three sides of the weapon, players will be able to create their own signature variants with an = infinite number of possible combinations. Conclusion Since this is a Beta – and because it’s important that we stress test the game in particular ways – we will have gated progression caps along the way. Also, note that Arena won’t be available in the Beta; however, we suspect that won’t take the competitive edge off of the games being played. Stay tuned here and subscribe to @Treyarch on Twitter for the latest studio and Beta-related news. In the meantime, start warming up those itchy trigger fingers – we’ll see you next week! Greetings from Gamescom! We’re here at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany to share more information about our eSports agenda. In fact, we just wrapped a livestream with ESL where we put many of our eSports features on display. Hopefully, you were able to tune in – if not, we’d like to bring you up to speed. The competitive agenda has been something that we’ve felt passionately about very early on: we allowed players to stream video from the game, we introduced CODcaster tools and special displays and views, we gave viewers the chance to “Listen In” on the action and – among other things – we introduced fans to League Play and the idea of a persistent competitive Call of Duty environment. We went after it so hard on Black Ops 2 that we knew that we had to bring it on Black Ops 3 – here’s a little bit about what we have in store: Arena is the Black Ops III system for ranked competitive play, where consecutive wins earn players into progressively higher ranks up to the elite Masters Division. The new Bans and Protects system creates a meta-game around selection of content. With this system, each player gets one (or multiple) votes that they can use to either ban or protect a specific piece of content from Create-a-Class, Scorestreaks or Specialists. This adds a new layer of strategy to competition, while supporting the empowerment of competitive organizations and individuals to restrict content based on their own tournament guidelines.Specialists introduce a new dynamic to multiplayer with powerful weapons and abilities that can be earned over the course of a match. The Specialist Draft is a pre-match selection process, designed for Arenas and tournaments, in which each team is allowed no more than one of each Specialist weapon or ability, encouraging teams to plan each player’s role strategically for the mode of play.Black Ops III brings big changes to the CODcaster Mode for commentators and viewers. Casters can specify which settings they want to use when the game starts in the pre-game lobby and change the settings in-game as well. Also for casters, the new Quick Settings menu grants access to the most commonly used caster tools on the fly, allowing for speedy changes to be made right in the middle of the action. For spectators, watching competitive Call of Duty is about the teams. Casters can now specify team names and primary team colors - overriding the default, in-game faction names. Additionally, the loadout widget allows casters to visually illustrate details about specific players’ loadouts and equipment configurations. Black Ops III also supports recent innovations in Call of Duty such as full-screen view and X-Ray mode. Additionally, Black Ops III marks the return of fan favorite competitive modes including the fast and frenetic Uplink mode, where players face-off in an effort to send a satellite careening into the enemy’s goal. Additionally, perennial favorite modes Search and Destroy, Capture the Flag and Hardpoint are set to make their return as part of the Black Ops III multiplayer mix. Finally, for fans of eSports, Treyarch and Activision will have even more exciting news about additional features, leagues and seasons in the months ahead – you won’t want to miss it. While it’s been great to unveil these features and officially share them with everyone, we won’t rest until they’re in your hands on November 6 – we can’t wait for you to enjoy first-hand what the team has done. See you online! Treyarch View the full article
