Propably because the server has some limit and overloading storage would cause into crashing a website or making it slower. We cannot have everyone posting super large files you know :) (propably)

You can post pictures in pretty decent quality to look by uploading them on some other web for example imgur and paste link for that picture so the website will "convert" that link into an 'thumbnail' that looks like you uploaded that picture with decent quality to look
